The 19th convocation at Independent University will take place at the end of January 2018. Since I gained access to the data where all the graduates and their majors were found, I decided to put forth an interesting analysis that highlights the study patterns of over 200+ graduates who will be rejoicing their success wearing black and golden gowns throwing mortar boards up in the air at the IUB campus, Bashundhara.

The amount of money and time invested behind these prestigious degrees truly reflect a causal relationship between their academic interest and the job industry.

If we look into the Graduate School, we will find that MBA in Finance is the leading subject with the highest number of graduates.

Surprisingly, the Undergraduate School has the highest number of BBA graduates in Marketing, making Marketing the hottest subject of this decade.

Engineering school is still plagued by the EEE engineer stereotype and hence, EEE graduates are the highest in number followed by Computer Science and Computer Engineering graduates.

Considering the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, MSS in Media Studies and Communication with focus on Film, Journalism and Development Studies played a significant role with 24 graduates from the graduate school. The number gained a slight increase with 26 BSS in CMN graduates from the undergraduate school. The key indicator in this particular area would be the sharp growth of the advertising and development sector in Bangladesh with a strong media industy followed by continual refugee influx at Ukhia, Cox's Bazaar tagging a huge potential for media professionals and foreign aids.

The remaining graduates from the school of Environmental Science and Public Health show that the students lack interest in these areas with little relevance to the job market. The debate is common and easy to understand since we lack a deep understanding of Mother Nature and her interaction with humans.

I wish all the graduates a wonderful life ahead. Halelujah!

All the data analysis presented in this article has been taken from the link given below:

An MBA in Finance is the leading degree with the highest number of graduates followed by Human Resource Management and Marketing.

Marketing is the leading subject at IUB with the highest number of graduates who have signed up for the competition.

As seen from the PIE chart, 35% of the Master students are Finance Majors. The key indicator in this area would be the role of the finance and banking sector that compelled these students to pursue an MBA in Finance being highly influenced by the financial industry.

Marketing is the subject that is revolutionizing the future of how businesses in Bangladesh are being conducted. IUB takes pride in its alumni who have achieved significant focus by their contribution to the growth of some world renowned brands starting from Google to Durex.

Engineering School is yet to break out of the stereotype where EEE graduates hold the majority with a highly saturated telecommunications industry and little or no hard engineering industry in Bangladesh.
